Hello from Roo.

Hi my name is Roo and I have been with my Mom since I was 8 weeks of age.  She took me everywhere in the car.  I was about 5 months old when Mom realized that I had been acting goofy at specific times of the day.  What Mom didn't know then was that I was letting her know when she was going to have a seizure.  It took Mom a few more months to realized exactly what I was doing.  During the two months between 5 and 7 months Mom started to watch me closely and learned what I was doing and started to teach me what was ok and what wasn't.  She also started to bring me into the stores when she was shoppings with Dad.

I was a quick learner and even taught Mom how smart I was.  We would always shop in the same stores and I soon learned how to navigate the store when Mom told me that she had to go here or there.  I even learned where there was a safe place for Mom to sit when she would have one of her bad ones where she would shake and look like she was day dreaming.  That place came in handy one day when we were shopping with Dad.  I took Mom to that chair they had in the middle of the store and had Mom sit down and I crawled up in her lap to prevent her from getting up until it was safe.  Poor Dad he had to stand there and wait for us.

I can also take Mom, when she is out of it from the minor ones, to the car.  It doesn't matter where it is parked and I can find it for Mom.  You see Mom hates to have a seizure in public and I know this so I take her when possible away from those people that stare at her.  Plus Mom never loses the car this way.

Thank You to my Friends

Mom had shared what happened with others who have service dogs like myself and they have been gracious and have offered to help cover the final part of the bill with the use of setting up an ebay auction to help cover my bill.  Currently there is still about $236 left but mom and Dad will some how find the cash to cover it.  Mom is putting down another $100 after selling the big sofa they had in the living room that they replaced with a freecycle sofa bed to make the living space larger for me and my brother and three sisters.

My special Care.

On Sunday the 16th of September I was vomiting all day and even after Mom & Dad called my Dr. to get help to stop my vomiting.  After many calls Mom & Dad took me in first thing in the morning to se my Dr.  When we got there I was still not feeling good, vomiting on my way to the Dr.  Once there my Dr. took my temp which was now down ot 99.6, took my blood to do a chem panel and a CBC, she also did a physical which I never cried about.  But then my doctor did a rectal and found a lot of blood.  She then left to get the x-ray machine ready and Mom let her take me with her to the back of the office.  I was a good girl, never crying.  It took 10 minutes for those pictures of me to develope and when the doctor came back she said I was staying.  Next thing I heard was Mom going "OH NO" as my doctor was showing her my pictures.

What Mom, Dad and my Doctor were looking at was what looked like a Vululus which in simple terms is a twisted colon with something maybe trapped in there as well.

Mom then sat on the floor with me crying because she would have to leave me behind.  She knew I was in good hands because she drove me 90 miles to see my doctor.  Then Mom took me back to this room where she wanted me to go into a kennel.  Mom knows I don't do kennels and I was less than happy to go in there, but Mom picked me up and placed me on the blanket my doctor put down and also left me her t-shirt so that I could be next to Mom.

My Doctor did the surgery and Mom called several times to see how it went and how I was doing.  She was worried about me.  And I was worried about Mom.  I cried without Mom near me.

Tuesday morning Mom & Dad came to get me and I was happy to see Mom again.  But they say I can't work for 7-10 days.  My Doctor told Mom & Dad that they were treating me for something called colitis which my doctor says is from a rawhide I had on Saturday.  I am on an antibiotic and a special diet to help my tummy.

I am at home resting, still not feeling good.  I had a little something to eat yesterday but so far today I don't feel like eating.  Mom called my Doctor to make sure that was ok so I have a few days before Mom will force feed me.

In Roo's time off she likes to swim and play games with Dad.  She is a Dock Dog afficionado and will be missing a fun day with Dad now, but that's ok.  She has to recover and until then is staying home with Mom so we can both relax so that we both stay calm and stressfree.
